Luke Coles holds the promise of an extraordinary adventure series. I took a sneek peek at the epilogue and I normally don't care for first-person present-tense, but the novel itself has a nice past-tense narrative tone and story-teller quality that pulled me in comfotably. I very much enjoyed the vividness of the settings (which is understandable being that the author has been to these places - I'm told). The characters are well-developed and the mystery and supernatural elements of the story most definitely keep the pages turning. The ending is where many books fall short, but Mr. Walker did a fine job right up to the final page. This book is a solid, deserving 4-star compared to even the great works in this genre. That it is from an debut author impresses just that much more and pushes it to a 5-star.Product details

Luke Coles and the Flower of Chiloe (Audible Audio Edition) Josh Walker Paul Tuttle LLC Forgotten Places Publishing Books Reviews
Love the Book. I must honestly say having the author pass you a note when he's sitting next to you five minutes after you meet him is a pretty good reason to read a book. It jumps around in time so be ready to be invested in multiple stories till they come together more.
Its rare to find stories that marry eastern and western styles of story telling and even more rare to actually find stories that take place so south of the border and i was very amused.

Synopsis
Luke Coles is a man without a past. His memory begins at the Battle of Gettysburg, where he fought besides the 20th Maine under Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. After the war, he begins his search for a place to call home. After facing a monster in a Mexican that mine kills many of his friends, he flees until he gets to Chiloé Island. His life seems to return to normal, and he catches the eye of a local girl. However, the world of the supernatural is far from through with him. With the murder of his beloved, he finds his destiny lies in a world of mythological creatures, monsters, and magic.
Review
Luke Coles and the Flower of Chiloé takes the reader to a world where mythological creatures are real. It follows the story of Luke Cole, one time union soldier, as he faces a monster that murdered his friends 150 years ago. Luke Cole is part of an elite cadre whose mission is to protect the innocent people of the world from supernatural monsters. Now he must return to where he first faced a monster and settle accounts for those friends murdered. Josh Walker uses flashbacks as an integral part of his story telling. This takes the reader from the present, to various points in Luke Coles life, as he prepares for his final confrontation. I am not normally fond of flashbacks, as they usually arrest the forward momentum of the story.
The story is exciting, though I found the action hard to visualize on occasion. Moreover, the author had a hard time projecting that the protagonist was in real danger. This is especially true during his final confrontation. While the monster did land a few hits, the final battle seemed too easy. The story telling was still good, and I am interested in checking out the next installment of Luke Coles adventures.
Josh Walker mixes his experiences with eastern and western storytelling to come up with an exciting story. The style of writing mixed with exciting fantasy tales grabs you from the beginning and leaves you wanting more clear to the end. The multiple adventures that seemingly intertwine leave just the right amount of imagination and myth to give you a sense of wonder. A highly suggested read for anyone, unless you don't have time to be trapped in to reading a book nonstop.
An incredibly spine chilling book. I thoroughly enjoyed the shivers Josh's
Luke Coles and the Flower of Chiloe gave me. He gives you a good scare early
on in the book, one that kept me reading on until 600 am. If you've ever
dealt with tremendous inner turmoil, you'll be able to relate well to Luke
Cole, the lead character. Josh talks a bit at the beginning of the book about
the sequence of events occurring in three different time periods. You really
have to read it to see how effective it is at drawing the entire story to a
conclusion. A wonderfully unique tale filled with magic and a host of
supernatural creatures. Highly recommended for horror fans.
This book had an enjoyable narrative combined with plenty of humor and action! It was fun to read about Luke Coles, as he took on ghosts, monsters, and a group of evil doers that go by the name of Righteous Province. The monsters are nothing short of frightening, and the descriptions of the characters are quite good. Luke’s primary weapons are a katana sword, which he uses to slash at his enemies, and a firearm loaded with silver bullets. He also has a pet coyote, named Shadow, that helps him on his adventures. This book was great fun! I am so glad I picked this one up!
I read this book after being recommended by a friend and I was not disappointed. I couldn't put it down! At first the order of things seemed a little odd, but I really enjoyed reading the book and thought the story was told in the perfect order. My father is from Chile and I have heard some of the myths that book references, but they came more alive to me in this story than I have ever heard them before. Overall I would highly recommend this book and I can't wait to see more books from this author!
